I had been to tastings before but this was another experience all its own. Course after course we had almost full portions of each dish. No complaints here. Everything was wonderful. Pelagia’s dining room is perfect for small private events and special occasions. The restaurant itself is great for all occasions and provides an eclectic and fun atmosphere.
Since Pelagia is located at the Renaissance Hotel they are open 365 days a year. Yes, even Christmas. So if your Turkey burns or you simply decide to throw in the towel this year, (which I highly encourage) Pelagia is prepared to wine and dine you. With prix fixe menus for Christmas and New Years Eve they’ve taken away some of the holiday stress. All you need to do is sit back, relax and enjoy Executive Chef Gardiner’s creative menu.
When speaking with Chef Gardiner, he mentioned his excitement at exploring new flavors and getting creative. The Almond Laced John Dory was my absolute favorite. I’m convinced we should put black truffle on everything. Here is the rest of the tasting menu marked with a few of my personal favorites.
Salad of Duck Confit, Sunchokes, Frisee, Pomegranate, Port Vinaigrette
*Lobster En Croute Escargots Style*
Acorn Squash, Toasted Almond, Kale, Red Wine Vinaigrette
Grilled Pear, Watercress, Maple Bacon & Walnut Dressing
Colorado Rack of Lamb, Blackberry Sage Demi
*Herb Citrus Stuffed Breast of Pheasant*
*Almond Laced John Dory, Pernod & Black Truffle*
Slow Roast Lamb Roulade with Parsley Crust and Mushroom duxelles
Eggnog Panna Cotta
*Torta Della Nonna
*Cardamom Spiced Creme Brulee*
*Chocolate Strawberry Truffle*
Lemon and citrus flavors can be subtly experienced throughout this menu which the chef attributes to his Hawaiian upbringing. If Chef isn’t in the kitchen you can find him wind-surfing. Chef Brett Gardiner recommends the Salad of Duck Confit and the Lobster En Croute.
Pelagia is conveniently tucked into the Renaissance Tampa at International Plaza Bay Street. Reservations can be made by phone or online.
